Day 105: After Hours Errands

As a full-time working mom, I end up running a lot of errands during the week after the boys have gone to bed. While most stores close at 9:00 p.m., Target closes at 10:00, and the grocery store stays open until at least midnight. Although heading out at this time of night is not ideal (I'd much rather be curled up in bed with a book, or better yet, with Ed), there is a lot to be said about the quiet, un-crowded atmosphere of these stores on weeknights. Tonight I needed to go to three specific stores. I left the house at 8:00, got back at 9:20, and successfully checked everything off of my list. (Well, except for diapers, which I forgot.) Here's my loot:

  • Birthday presents for Seth (One from Ed and me, one from William)--check.
  • Cake pans for Seth's and William's birthday parties--check
  • Icing for Seth's birthday cake--check
  • "Sunday best" outfit for William to wear TOMORROW for his class's special performance--check
  • Bathing suit for William--check (This actually wasn't on my list, but I found a cute suit at Target and went ahead and bought it, which is probably why I forgot to buy the diapers. There's only so much info this tired brain can retain at one time!)
Dinner:
Sirloin steak (broiled), boiled new potatoes, salad (broccoli for the boys)
I had planned to make this marinade for the steak, but I was too tired to make it on Sunday night. So I made this one instead. We ate dinner at 7:00. William ate all of his dinner (broccoli and steak). Seth ate all of his broccoli, but didn't eat his steak. He had filled up on hummus and crackers when we got home, though, so I wasn't too upset. The boys ate ice cream with chocolate syrup and whipped cream for dessert.

Score!! I too go to Target at 8:45 a lot of nights. Kohls as well! It is a quiet time which works well for me. But man, it does make me tired. You guys are birthday central, Beth!! Enjoy these milestones!
